Dental Implants

Dental implants are natural-looking replacements for missing teeth that provide the same support and function as your natural tooth root would. They are the most advanced therapy available for replacement of lost teeth and are made up of a titanium post that is inserted into the bone where a tooth once used to be. After an implant is placed and heals, it can hold a crown, bridge or denture just like roots hold natural teeth in place. Dental implants are one of the longest lasting forms of dental work we can provide, and in many cases getting an implant is a once during your lifetime cost, making them cost effective in the long term.

If you choose to have a dental implant, you will be set up for an appointment with a periodontist (a specialist of the gums and supporting bone) who will perform the surgery to insert the implant which will take 3-4 months to heal into place. The surgery itself is very simple with very little discomfort and often feels no less comfortable than having a filling placed. Once the surgeon has approved the implant for restoration you will return to Dr. Leong’s office where he will take an impression of the implant and it’s surrounding teeth to record it’s exact position in the mouth. A lab will then use this impression to create a custom made tooth, bridge, or denture that will fit exactly into your implant and replace any missing teeth in the area. Not every situation can be treated with an implant so it is best for you to book an appointment with Dr. Leong for an exam to determine whether this would be the best treatment option for you.
